• 5.0 out of 5 stars from Kilt_monster -- A good read if you want to hear stories from the dawning day of mountain rescue : I read this book after hearing about Hamish MacInnes in the Glencoe visitors museum; it is written with a clear and simple style, but really brings to life the stories of real rescues. Throughout no effort is made to either avoid or 'puff up' the danger involved in some of these feats while a good sprinkling of humour and thoughtful insight makes it an interesting and varied read - a good insight into the origins of mountain rescue. • 5.0 out of 5 stars from Major Road -- Thoroughly enjoyable book. : Thoroughly enjoyed this book.I did not realise the amount of work that went into a rescue and the dedication of the volunteers, risking their lives to help others. Hamish Mcinnes was able to write about these rescues in a way that would appeal to a wide range of readers, whether they are interested in mountains or not. • 4.0 out of 5 stars from Alpman -- Hamish definitely Rescued in the "Golden Era" Good book would thoroughly recommend : MacInnes is a legend in the climbing world. His era of mountain rescue was when they were making a lot of it up as they went along. They were hard men and ladies performing these rescues. I'm sure in this politically correct world we live in now, a lot of the rescuers would probably be open to severe criticism from some of our much thinner skinned recipients and their relatives. • 5.0 out of 5 stars from Dr M McKenna -- Wonderful stories : I came to this book from reading other older climbing tomes, such as those by Peter Boardman and Joe Tasker. Reading the words of such a distinguished Scottish climber of these rescues which, despite being from the 70's, aren't any different to the challenges faced today. But made all the better for the fantastic descriptions of the climbing community of Glencoe. Was lovely to read and very pleased that this was republished digitally.
